Thomas Gore (1881 1954), part of generation 5 was initially involved with the timber side of the company his first job in 1895 aged 14 was to fetch the beer from the Mulberry Tree pub round the corner for the timber sawyers, who still cut timber by hand Foreign timber was imported via the Margate Pier & Harbour company, whereas English timber was pulled on a horse-drawn timber tug from Chilham sawmills; but by the first world war the building and decorating sides had been relinquished: as was similarly the timber merchant element during the second world war. However the corresponding growth in the funeral side was self-evident.
